Nightmode keyboard
« on: July 20, 2018, 04:23:21 PM »
As you have probably noticed the integrated night mode keyboard in DSO planner is, well, sucks ;D It doesn't even have any multilingual support. We consider it a last resort solution, like when you have installed DSO Planner as a first astronomy app on your phone at the last moment before hitting rural roads to observe in the off-the-grid wilderness...

Making a full-blown IMEI (Android Input Option) is a serious project of its own. Fortunately, there are several options available on the Google Play which allow you to customize the Android system keyboard to your liking.

The most suitable keyboard for our night needs seems to be the FancyKey Keyboard. It's free and allows to configure and color your custom keyboard look and feel almost ideally for our task. See the picture above. The only problem is highlighted content, like the current mode and the key pressed (that blue ABC on the image). But that seems to be minor if you plan to type a lot and used to standard Android Keyboards.

I'm in contact with the developer trying to convince him to implement needed fixes/options. So stay tuned! Please don't hesitate to let everybody know if you are using any other good night keyboard with your Android!

Another interesting keyboard is Hydrogen Keyboard Chrooma. It seems to be even better and allows to set up the application bond (so when you start the DSO Planner the Chrooma Keyboard will switch to the night mode automatically. But it looks like it's for newest Androids, Like N,O. I can't install it on Marshmallow (6.0) version OS.
